Premiere party draws 'Black Panther' fans for private screening
One of the hottest parties of the weekend wasn’t downtown or on a college campus — it was right outside the doors of Regal River Ridge Stadium 14.
Fans dressed in bright batik prints and upscale black attire posed for pictures on the red and black carpet Friday as part of a “Black Panther” movie premiere party hosted by local creative branding agency Blackwater Branding. Organizers said the event was part of the company’s Black History Month celebrations and serves as a community-building event.
“It’s a positive gathering of [many] African-Americans who can take advantage of seeing a cast of all-black actors and the nontraditional roles as the heroes and heroines,” said Keith Anderson, who was dressed in traditional Kenyan attire and was one sponsor of the event through Anderson Consultant LLC. “For our community, during Black History Month, it’s positive reinforcement, that yes, a period of our culture involved American slavery, but even through a fictitious story, we can see ourselves as more than just ex-slaves.”
